It's no question that women run the world — I mean, Beyoncé told us so, so it's got to be true. But even with a stamp of approval from Queen Bey, society often leaves the woman feeling inferior and defeated, especially plus-size women.

Here's what eight ladies with some extra goodness want you to know about existing in this world as someone who's fat.

"I've been a plus-sized woman for many years and I don't think people realize how tough it can be. There are many reasons for weight gain, not just overeating. Also, we have feelings! Jokes about Type 2 diabetes are not funny. Joking about fat people is bullying."

"I think it has more to do with the confidence you exude than size... As someone who was bullied for her weight all her life, I always thought I was worthless. So even when I got skinny in college (and to this day, when I’m a size 8), I still battle issues with self-worth and doubt my attractiveness."

"Men still want u!!!! They always talk about the negative [aspects] of being big but guess what....U still get hit on, complimented and lusted after."

"People fail to see you as a fully dimensional human being — as if I'm not allowed to be smart and sexy because I’m not a svelte white girl. Like, dafuq?"

"During my weight-loss journey, I discovered around size 16/18 that race played into whether men commented on my appearance or not. Somewhere around size 18, Black men tried to pick me up when I was out shopping. It only happened with white men when I lost a lot more weight and was a size 14 or under."

"After years of health issues and medications for diseases, yes, I am heavy, but [I am] no less lovable, capable, or intelligent as my thin counterparts."

"Life is extremely complicated and [it's] very easy in our society to make poor choices [health-wise], especially with our own government and almost anyone dispensing diet advice advocating things that don't work for everyone (i.e., pushing low-fat, high-carb foods as the default diet). I have a metabolic disorder and I've learned to eat food using adapted macronutrient food ratios to regulate my body weight. For years, I thought I was crazy and addicted to food. Now I realize that my metabolism cannot cope with the standard American diet."

"Being fat doesn’t mean I don’t take care of my appearance. It doesn’t mean guys are afraid to be seen with me. It doesn’t mean I’m not hardworking. It doesn’t mean I don’t deserve love and respect. It doesn’t mean I’m not a human being."

If I'm not providing treatment for children with autism, surely I'm conducting neuroscience research. If not that, I'm in my little kitchen making vegan snacks that I won't eat. If not that, I'm binge-watching Netflix. This week's addiction is New Girl. If not that, I'm at my dojo in my kickboxing class. If not that, then I'm on my computer writing and rewriting the same thing over and over before finally posting here. Enjoy my little section of this unsuspecting, unexplainable world.
