8 Binge-Worthy Travel Shows That Don't Star Anthony Bourdain

We have a theory about why people love travel shows. It's because first and foremost, we humans want to sit in our PJs and eat chocolate chip cookie dough (ice cream unnecessary) under the covers with our dogs. But, at the same time, we want to have adventures. We want to see the world and experience new things.

So Anthony Bourdain is, when you think about it, doing a public service. He's America's go-to man for de facto traveling and describing the world with the perfect amount of snark and honesty that we, half-paying attention from our couches, want to see and hear.

But — and this may come as a shock — were you aware that there are other travel shows? Like, a lot of them, told from different perspectives that vary from snarky to heartfelt to sarcastic? Check out some of the other fantastic options for getting your adventure fix on TV right here!

Departures

This isn't the most polished series, but that only increases its charm. Basically, it's two Canadian bros doing the trips you've only ever dreamed about, but their laid back attitude will absolutely win you over.

Booze Traveler

Want to talk about dream jobs? Jack Maxwell travels the world on a mission to drink as many different things as possible. Like all good travel shows, his personality absolutely makes it work.

Samantha Brown's "Passport" Series

This isn't an actual trailer for the show, but if you want to get to know one of the leading women in travel television, give it a watch. She's both insightful and lighthearted on her many adventures.

Bizzare Foods

If you're into the weirder, grosser side of food, you can't miss Andrew Zimmern's experiences all over the world. Maybe don't watch this before you sit down for dinner, though.

Stephen Fry In America

Want to see what the English think of your home country? One of the world's greatest narrators shares his hilariously dry takes on American life.

6 / 8

The Getaway

Watch a rotating cast of your favorite celebrities see some of the world's most glamorous and exotic locations.

(That sounded kind of snobby but actually this one's a ton of fun.)

The Amazing Race

Maybe not exactly what you had in mind for "travel television," but they do a great job of combining some of the world's coolest locations while also adding an element of competition. It's like watching a dumbed-down Bourdain show on uppers.

An Idiot Abroad

What happens when you make someone who hates traveling the host of a travel show? Hands-down the funniest travel show in history!

TOM BOMBADIL

I had a rough childhood. I watched my parents murdered right before my eyes. Shot point-blank by some two-bit thug.

So I ran away from Gotham and wandered the earth, until eventually Liam Neeson found me in an obscure Asian jail. He gave me a home, taught me to fight, and showed me the true meaning of justice meant wearing black rubber latex and speaking really deeply.

Then I killed him with a flying commuter train.
