Disney Princesses often get a bad rap. We get it. Throughout childhood, girls define their ideas and ambitions based on these characters — leading many young ladies to dream of becoming princesses themselves. There's nothing wrong with princesses, per se, but don't you think it's time those little girls aspire to be more than just a pretty trophy on Prince Charming's arm riding off into the sunset?

Illustrator Matt Burt does, so he reimagined those royal Disney ladies in a new way: as powerful, successful modern day career women. And the results are more magical than you could ever imagine.

Each illustration shows the adult version of a youthful princess, with her defining traits on display in the form of a career. The industries portrayed include everything from education, to government, to business — a well-rounded spectrum sure to empower the youth of today.

"I wanted to create these to inspire others in hopes that they can find a career that they love and a career that makes a difference," Burt told Scary Mommy.

Here are some our favorites! Prepare to be hella inspired. You can find the rest of Burt's illustrations here.

Merida - Two-Time Olympian

Merida - Two-Time Olympian

"Merida competed for her own hand in marriage, so why not for a gold medal in the Olympics?" Burt explains in his reimagining of Merida as a two-time Archery & Equestrian Olympic gold medalist.

Anna & Elsa - Climate Change Scientists

Anna & Elsa - Climate Change Scientists

Elsa and Anna of the Disney phenomenon "Frozen" were already pretty awesome characters, but Burt envisioned them to be even more empowering — as scientists studying climate change. "While their companion Olaf may love summer, the sun, and all things hot, Anna and Elsa recognize what a rising global temperature might mean," he writes in his explanation.

Snow White - Leading Psychologist

Snow White - Leading Psychologist

We all know Snow White knows how to deal with many personality types, so why not put that knowledge to use as a psychologist? Burt explains, "Snow White has always been known for being caring, thoughtful, and someone willing to lend a hand to those in need. Using these strengths paired with hard work, she earned her doctorate in psychology and is one of the leaders in the field of mental health."

Jasmine - UN Ambassador

Jasmine - UN Ambassador

Princess Jasmine is a fighter. She's always stood up for what's right, so Burt envisioned her as badass UN Ambassador. "A natural politician, she now advocates for her country of Agrabah at the United Nations. One of her primary initiatives is protecting women’s rights by ensuring that women are treated fairly across the globe," he writes.

Moana - Officer In The Navy

Moana - Officer In The Navy

Moana is a natural leader on her own, but Burt's version brings out an even more powerful side of her as an officer in the Navy. He writes, "Moana has excelled in the Navy, rising to the rank of lieutenant commander. She has been awarded multiple honors during her service, such as two Navy Achievement medals and a National Defense Service Medal. With such a successful start, there’s no telling how far she’ll go in her career."

Ariel - Pop Star & Record Producer

Ariel - Pop Star & Record Producer

You probably think of Ariel as the princess who gave up her voice, family, and everything else for a man she just met. But what if, instead, she honed her natural talent and passion for singing? "Considered the best of her talented sisters, Ariel took her skills and made it her career. She went multi-platinum with her single, “Part of Your World,” and now both writes her own music and is a producer at her own label, Seven Seas Records," Burt writes in his recreation of the mermaid.

Tiana - James Beard Award-Winning Chef and Restaurateur

Tiana - James Beard Award-Winning Chef and Restaurateur

Tiana always knew she wanted to be a chef, so she worked hard until that dream became reality. "She now stands at the top of the culinary world, winning the James Beard Award and owning one of the most popular restaurants in the country. Every day she digs a little deeper, trying out new dishes and experimenting with new recipes and flavors," Burt writes of Princess Tiana.

Mulan - Title IX Lawyer

Mulan - Title IX Lawyer

Mulan's calling comes as little surprise, as she was always the most impressive of the princess tribe. She's a fighter, and equality and honor are her core virtues. "After experiencing discrimination both personally and in the military, Mulan turned her sights on a law degree, graduating with the highest honors. She now fights for equality on university campuses, ensuring that men and women are given the same treatment and opportunities," Burt writes of Mulan.
