Leyna Bloom Wants To Become Victoria's Secret's First Trans Model

You could use a lot of words to describe the annual Victoria's Secret fashion show — extravagant, sexy, exciting — but "diverse" isn't one of them. Walking in the show is a two-decades-old tradition that is still largely reserved for thin, cisgendered white women. Leyna Bloom, a strikingly beautiful trans model of color, recently took to Twitter with a bold proclamation: She'd like to become the first trans model to be cast in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

"Trying to be the 1st Trans model of color walk a #VictoriaSecret Fashion show. #transisbeautiful #LeynaBloom," Bloom tweeted early Monday morning, garnering over 104,000 likes and 30,000 retweets at the time this post. 

One look at Bloom and you'll understand the hype. She's drop dead gorgeous and would look completely at home on a Victoria's Secret runway.

Bloom told Yahoo Lifestyle that walking for Victoria's Secret has been a lifelong dream of hers. 

"It's always been a dream for me, like so many others, not just trans women, all women, and some men even. This is a platform that glorifies femininity. I always felt in my most natural state I am heavenly. For my trans sisters, regardless of color, this will be a moment for us all."

Bloom has been modeling professionally since 2014 and has walked for brands like Chromat and The Blonds; last year, she made history as the first trans person of color to be featured in Vogue India. Now, she's determined to tackle her ultimate dream.

Honestly, we would be LUCKY to see this woman walk the Victoria's Secret runway. Take our wigs, Leyna. Just take them!

With Twitter doing what it does best, Bloom has probably already gotten Victoria's Secret's attention by now.

Though trans models have appeared in many other major fashion brands' campaigns, Victoria's Secret still has yet to hire its first trans model. Leyna Bloom isn't the first to point out the lack of diversity on its runways — plus-size model Tess Holliday has also commented on the lack of fat girls in Victoria's Secret campaigns.

Bloom concurs with Holliday that the diversity problem runs deep, and it's not just limited to one group of women. The brand neglects plenty of demographics.

Leyna Bloom's viral campaign is important, because it proves a point: The people have spoken, and they find lots of types of women sexy, including trans women, fat women, and women of color. Leyna Bloom is the perfect example — I mean, have you seen this woman?! 

The impact of a trans model on a runway as major as Victoria's Secret would be huge. As Bloom said, the brand "will have the power to set the tone, and that would be the biggest leap up to date. Can you imagine what that would do for our world?”
