Taking care of your skin is one of the most important things you can do when you're in your twenties and thirties- but that doesn't mean you should feel comfortable or obligated to shell out hundreds of dollars for expensive skincare products at high end stores. In fact, there are plenty of DIY facial routines you could try out to moisturize, cleanse and tighten your facial skin, none of which will cost a dollar.
This two-ingredient coconut facial scrub is an easy-to-make product that yields amazing results. I tried it, and my skin was so soft afterwards that I literally could not stop touching it. (I may or may not still be touching it right now...)
The only two required ingredients are baking soda and coconut oil, although the recipe suggests adding a drop or two of your favorite essential oil to make a yummy smell. I opted for lavender essential oil, which is my absolute favorite.
All you have to do is mix one tablespoon of coconut oil with one teaspoon of baking soda, along with a drop or two of whichever essential oil you choose. You might have to heat up the coconut oil so that it blends, and then all you do is treat it like a normal face wash, lathering it against your skin for thirty seconds or so then washing it off with warm water.
This easy concoction works to fight acne, relieve sunburn, fight body odor, increase the softness of your skin and heal skin rashes. It's also great for your hair so feel free to go there!
Since I'm a huge fan of coconut oil as body lotion (I use it every day when I get out of the shower), I had an idea of what to expect. The baking soda added a little bit of grittiness to the experience, so it felt kind of like a facial scrub with soft micro-beads.
Overall, the most immediate result I noticed from the face scrub was softness and moisture. My skin was literally glowing and dewy. However, since coconut oil takes about ten minutes to set into the skin, I did look a little bit greasy immediately after, so this is probably something you'd want to experiment with in the evening.
Since the scrub, my skin has felt so soft all day long. I don't know if I would turn this into a daily routine, if it's more suitable as a weekly mask, but I will definitely do it again!
