After weeks of speculation, Pippa Middleton, Princess Kate's younger sister, just confirmed that she is expecting her first child with husband James Matthews.
She spilled the news and opened up about how her first trimester is going in her recurring fitness column for the U.K. weekly magazine Waitrose Weekend.
Titled "Exercising during pregnancy," the article discusses ways Pippa's had to adjust her fitness regimen for her first trimester.
"When I learned the happy news that I was pregnant," she said, very casually confirming the news, "I realized I needed to adjust my normal 4 to 5 day a week routine and find a way of continuing my exercise safely throughout the three trimesters."
She added that she's done as much research on pregnancy workouts as possible, but isn't get many answers.
"I’m fanatical about sport and have looked at loads of books and websites on exercise during pregnancy, but have been disappointed by the limited technical information what you can and can’t do," she wrote, frustrated. "This being my first pregnancy, I had so many questions I felt were still unanswered. I wanted to know things like, would I strain if I served in tennis, are strokes of swimming safe, can I still do a normal yoga class if I avoided certain positions? Could I still work my abs?"
Hmmm. She's got some good points there. Ultimately, she shares a few effective workouts for women in their first trimester: lunges, squats with light weights, and reverse flyes.
"I've noticed my body change and weight increase," she wrote about her pregnancy thus far, "but through effective exercise and sports I feel that it's being strengthened to support a healthy pregnancy, birth and recovery."
The mom-to-be also noted that she was lucky enough not to experience morning sickness, but has no idea what the next few weeks have in store.
Rumors of Pippa Middleton's pregnancy have been floating around since April, just a few days before her sister, Princess Kate, gave birth to Prince Louis. This is the first public confirmation, however, that she and Matthews are adding on to their little family.
"I look forward to sharing my pregnancy workout experiences with you every month," she wrote to conclude the article. And we look forward to hearing about them!
