From headscarves to velour tracksuits, the 2000s were a hot mess for fashion, and Nicole Richie was at the forefront of it all. I can almost guarantee most girls who grew up watching The Simple Life bought a tracksuit specifically to match the dynamic duo's fashion tastes. Richie and other 2000s icons, like her pals Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and the Olsens, basically defined that era of fashion — despite how cringeworthy it seems today. Remember, these were simpler times, people. Check out some of these ICONIC fashion statements, like this...err...red carpet look that's just plain BANANAS:

And who could forget the iconic tube top?
While we may yearn for the days of tracksuits, side bangs, and brightly colored headscarves, those days are long gone. And, if we're being honest, fashion has drastically improved. But that doesn't mean we can have a little throwback celebration every once in awhile.
To honor the best-but-also-worst era in fashion, Richie teamed up with Paper Magazine to re-create her iconic 2000s wardrobe. And, yes, it is just as amazing as you'd expect.
"Just as I was prepared to lock up the early 2000 Nicole & throw away the key, @papermagazine asked me to re-create some of my looks for the most fun photo shoot I've done in a long time," Richie posted via Instagram, alongside some legendary throwback outfit pics from the shoot. "I got to play with wigs, small dogs, and laughed for about 8 hours straight. So here she is, in all her glory... minus the Percocet. Love you! 💅🏿"
Prepare yourself for the throwback of a lifetime. Be sure to play "Stars Are Blind" by Paris Hilton as you click through the photos.
You can see a few more of the ~lewks~ over at Paper. Just beware, you may want to go re-watch The Simple Life afterwards.
