It's a perfect day and nothing can go wrong! Why? Because "Legally Blonde 3" is officially happening! And according to Deadline, Reese Witherspoon is this close to sealing the deal to reprise her role as the iconic Elle Woods.
Witherspoon isn't the only one making a comeback. Karen McCullah and Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith — who wrote the original 2001 film — are in final talks to write the script for the third installment. It's unknown at this point if the third film will incorporate events from "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde," as McCullah and Smith weren't involved. Original producer Marc Platt and Platt Productions president Adam Siegel are producing as well, with the help of Witherspoon herself, through her Hello Sunshine media brand.
As you know, "Legally Blonde" was a national treasure. Released in 2001, it followed Elle Woods, a wealthy sorority girl, who discovered her own self-worth by attending Harvard Law School and ditching that no-good doofus Warner. And let's not discuss the second film.
Fortunately, the third will be "much in the spirit of the first film" and will focus on "female empowerment." Bless you, MGM. Plot details are scarce, though, as they're still in the very beginning stages of production. Maybe Elle will be president or maybe she'll lead the protest to get President Trump impeached. Honestly, she could run the world and we'd totally be okay with it.
The next step is to secure a director for the threequel. Robert Luketic directed the original, but there's no word yet if he's in or not for this project.
But, the question we all really want to know the answer to is what about Bruiser, the beloved chihuahua?
Back in 2016, the precious little pooch passed away, so will a lookalike take his place in the new film, or will they incorporate his death into the script? Either way, #RIPBruiser. You will be missed.
